It’s been a few months, and there are still people who either do not understand what ‘Black Lives Matter’ represents — or, they do understand and just don’t believe their lives should matter as much as yours or mine.

Yes, it is 3 words. Three words that stand for racial equality. That demand the end of systemic racism, and racial profiling. That call for an even playing field and an open-ended invitation to sit at the table, speak up at the table, and lead the table. They represent those who deserve justice for the black lives murdered by law enforcement, falsely imprisoned by a corrupt justice system, and families left without answers.

This isn’t an invite to counter anyone’s distain with “All Lives Matter” or “White Lives Matter” or “Blue T-shirts Matter”. There is no need to derail and redirect the focus by listing off any instances of rioting and destruction of property during protests either. There’s proof of causation by outside white nationalist groups who instigated the violence and damage.

Besides, if anti-BLM and anti-protesters really cared about violence and destruction of businesses, they would expend that anger and energy attending to the Trump supporting, anti-maskers who continually assault employees and trash places of business over being told they have to wear a mask. Those folks never seem to get arrested for violence, nor are they held accountable to pay for the damages they cause. Go take care of THOSE folks instead of trolling live feeds of BLM protests by brave citizens bringing us the truth of what is really happening at these orderly and non-violent gatherings.

If the phrase “Black Lives Matter” triggers you enough to bully, assault, and dismiss the importance of this movement… then you now understand why this movement exists.

It exists because of you.

Change is coming. It will be a long, hard, uncomfortable process. And, it will take even longer, and be even more uncomfortable until white folks — ALL WHITE FOLKS realize that the final move in this game has to be made by them. Because right now and for the past 400 years, white people have held important positions of power in America. They are voted in by other white people. This responsibility includes me. My heritage is 1/3 of those who are responsible. I take this very seriously and know it is my responsibility and duty to be the most effective ally I can be.

We all aren’t being held responsible for what our ancestors did in the past. We are being held accountable to ensure it ends with our generation, and doesn’t continue into the future.
