Girls Rock In Sacramento

Let me tell you a story.

A story about a young girl who was a little hesitant to try my self defense class during Girls Rock Music Camp week.

Meet Raeanne.

She started attending Girls Rock Sacramento back in 2016. It was her first time learning to play a musical instrument and be in a band.

I volunteer at each camp, each year and teach a 30 minute self defense class to the young women, and only if they are comfortable learning. And for her first 2 years attending GRS, Raeanne was too shy to try.

This year was different. Raeanne had developed enough confidence to learn self defense with me and the rest of the group. And she did awesome. Raeanne showed courage and strength unlike ever before.

Because of this great program, filled with amazing classes, coaches, and volunteers, Raeanne had gained the self-confidence to try something that was uncomfortable and overcome her fear. And I am so, so proud of her!

This is why I love volunteering for Girls Rock Sacramento, and why I highly recommend this camp for all young women. See you in the Teen camp next year, Raeanne!
